How I Went from NO-CLIENTS to CLIENTS ON-DEMAND

I have to admit it, when it comes to webinars, I’m a “late bloomer.” In fact, instead of starting early on with webinars, I went the way harder route. Even though I had a serious phobia of public speaking, I started my “presenter career” with public workshops and keynotes…

Sometimes towards the end of my 1st year of coaching (in 2004), I found myself with only one paying client, and I felt deeply demoralized and discouraged by all the hard work I put in and no results to show for…

As I started investing more and more time and $$$s into Marketing Training, I kept hearing over and over that the #1 Way to Get Life Coaching Clients is through Workshops! (DANG, I attended the wrong training – I wish I learned about teleclass and webinar strategies early on!)

So… even though I had a (almost literally) pee-in-your-pants type phobia of speaking in public, I hired a speaker coach, I joined Toastmasters, and just like in the movies – or just like the Law of Attraction peeps will tell you – only two months later I secured my first keynote… Totes out of the blue. But, hey, they say there are no accidents 🙂 

That little “detour” – trying to put on workshops to get Life Coaching Clients – got me to places I never imagined, getting paid $1000s for most of my speeches. All I had to do was show up and I’d get paid, anywhere from $1500.00 to $7500.00. How crazy is that!??  I didn’t even know that you can get paid to speak, when I started out on this journey. All I wanted to do was get paying coaching clients…

Sadly, two things happened towards then end of the last decade:

  1. The economy was hit and most companies’ training budgets were cut, and it become harder and harder to get speaking gigs
  2. My 3rd baby was born, and I felt guilty when I’d travel to deliver my speaking gigs, and I’d leave my wife at home with 3 kids

This is when I discovered webinars… and I thought DANG! I wish I knew about this years ago – I could have stayed home way more with my family…!

Of course, when I started my coaching, back in 2003, we only had teleseminars, but many were doing a killing with that too. I too have done a few teleseminars, and even some webinars early on, in 2006 and beyond, but in those first years, I was putting them on primarily for – well, to Get Life Coaching Clients – but it turned out I was “just” building relationships, as I did NOT know how to sell in my webinars! 

Once I started studying how to put on webinars that sell, my business took a 180-degrees turn. I was able to generate even more with webinars than with my speaking gigs, and I didn’t have to travel, sleep in all types of shabby (5-star) hotels :), wake up early, dress up fancy, and deliver my (usually) full-day presentations…

Now I can earn more while I can stay home and be a good daddy and husband, and I can deliver my webinars in my pajamas, if I choose too. 

Just to give you an idea of what’s possible… Last year I delivered more than 70 webinars – usually one a week; at times two – some of these generating “only a few” $thousands$s in sales; and a several of those webinars generated more than $10,000 in sales (with the record being a little over $15,000). 

The beauty of it all: Through my webinars I can promote my membership sites, or a premium priced product or service; I can promote others and earn a referral fee; or I can invite people to join my upcoming group coaching program; OR (rarely) I invite people to hire me for one-on-one coaching. Now, after almost 10 years of delivering webinars, I can truly say that I can get clients on demand, just by asking during a webinar, or by mentioning my opening for one-on-one coaching in one of my messages to my list.

Can’t beat that!
